war hurts

We’re in a war people. I’m talking knock down  drag out full fledged guerilla thermonuclear warfare here… But it’s a civil war. And who are we fighting? Ourselves. We are in a struggle every day of lives. We are getting pulled in two different directions constantly.

As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Romans 7:17-19

On one side we have our earthly bodies, the bodies that were born into sin and wrath. They are condemned to die and are forced to sin. Then, as Christians, we have our new body. We have been transformed and we are a new creation in Christ.

“Your old life is dead. Your new life, which is your real life – even though invisible to spectators – is with Christ in God. He is your life.” Colossians 3:3

So our spirit, or our mind, is trying to bring us closer to God. Closer to His will so that we can feel His presence and be blessed.

Do you see the divide? We’re talking about direct opposites here… So how do we win. How do we make it out of this trench warfare we have dug ourselves into. The answer, of course, is JESUS.

“What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.” Romans 7:24-25
