duk tape 4 lyfe

duct tape

Duct tape is so dang cool. I was watching Mythbusters one time (okay, many times) and they built a cannon out of duct tape. They made a boat out of only duct tape, they even picked up a car using the sticky “Alabama Chrome”…the point that I’m poorly making is this: duct tape is sticky, when it sticks to something the duct tape is very hard to separate from that object. But guess what, eventually it will separate.

Better example, from the moment you are conceived your mother is incredibly attached to you. She will fight for you and protect you. Your mother loves you an incredible amount…but you can be separated from her, whether that be because of weird circumstances or even just that time passes…Nothing on this Earth can stay with us forever (maybe you realize where this is going now).

But then there is Jesus.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written,

“For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
    we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I am so tempted to leave it there because that is such a powerful set of verses. We sin, we are at war with ourselves and our bodies try to pull us farther from God every day, but Jesus will not leave us. Nothing can separate the love that Christ Jesus has in us. He died for you, literally someone died for you…isn’t that incredible? For. You. If you take nothing else from Romans please understand that there is nothing you will ever do, no matter how bad or for how long that will keep you from receiving God’s love.

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved Ephesians 2:4-5

We didn’t earn it and we certainly don’t deserve it. But nothing will separate us from God. Nothing.
