Day 10

Haleigh Johnson (11th Grade)

We have a tendency to try to plan things out in our heads. Maybe it’s how your dream wedding will one day be. Or maybe the car you hope to have some day. Our plans seem great to us, and sometimes they even seem like what God would want for us. However, as we start to try to make these plans work out, sometimes God changes our circumstances or perspective to turn us more toward His plan. This is what happened to Joseph. Joseph had his heart set on marrying Mary. He was even obeying God’s law by staying pure during their engagement. Then he finds out Mary is pregnant. He knew how outrageous this would look to the public, so he felt like he definitely couldn’t marry her now! He cared so much for Mary that he wanted to be as discrete as possible about the divorce, not wanting to draw any attention to her. Then an angel speaks to Joseph assuring him that it is still God’s will for him to marry Mary and that God has an even greater plan then he had imagined. The angel promised that Mary’s child will grow up to be the Savior of the world and Joseph gets to be his earthly father! Although we can’t always see it at first, God’s plan is always greater than our own and worth any wait or obstacle. Joseph was greatly blessed – he was Jesus’ father and got to marry Mary…all because he simply trusted God and obeyed him!

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
