Day 11
Turner Powers (10th Grade)
“When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.” Matthew 1:24-25
Today’s devotion asked me to think of Joseph when he and Mary were supposed to be married, but Mary “was found to be with child”. Matthew tells us it was the work of the Holy Spirit, but Joseph was ready to break off the marriage. Mary tried to tell Joseph about the angel, but he wouldn’t believe her. Now just imagine how you would feel if your fiancé told you that she was pregnant with God’s child. Would you believe her right away? Probably not, right? Well luckily, God was not done. He sent an angel to Joseph telling him that Mary was telling the truth. Joseph was excited to find out what was happening, but ashamed that he didn’t believe Mary at first. Joseph went on to follow God’s plan for him by marrying Mary. The coolest thing about Joseph was his willingness to trust that God would make it all work. Joseph heard the angel’s message and essentially said “Okay, I’m in. I don’t understand all of this, but I’ll trust God.”
If I could narrow it down to two points of what I learned from today’s devotion it would be:
- As Christians, we are supposed to have the same trust in God that Joseph did
- Sometimes, God’s plan for your life involves a drastic change. You just need to trust that God is in control and He is using our lives to complete His ultimate plan: making sure that everyone knows Him.
