that dress tho

the dressWho all has seen this?

Of course, since I’m assuming you came here from a social media link, you saw a couple days ago the Internet collectively lose it’s mind over this one simple picture.

So let me ask you… what color is this dress? Some people will see white and gold, others see blue and black, but why and what does it mean?

Now there are many many scientific answers to this that probably make sense (I don’t science) to other people, but I believe there is something much more important to learn from this who-knows-what-color-it-is dress.

We see the world as a fallen place; our perspective is different than that of non-believers.

For most people, they know right from wrong. They see a situation and say, “I shouldn’t steal that candy bar, I need to pay for it because it is wrong to steal.” That one’s easy.

But what about when you say, “I shouldn’t stare at that girl, if I keep looking at her I will lust after her and that is sexually immoral.” Are you starting to see the problem?

As a Christian we know what God wants for us, but the world tells us it is ccompletely fine to look at “that girl” and think those thoughts. In fact, it embraces that mindset. Just look around you, everything we see and everywhere we go encourages sexual immorality… but that’s a different post for a different day.

My point is, we have been imbued with a heavenly perspective. And almost as importantly, those who don’t know the love of Christ and haven’t been saved do not have this view of things.

So we can’t go around and judge those who don’t have the love of Christ because they literally can’t understand what it is doing to them. Did you hear that? Because I was really bad about this in high school… Who has had these thoughts?

“Did you hear what (insert girl name) did with (insert boy name) last weekend? She is so trashy.”

“He smokes? I had no idea he was that kind of person.”

“All she does is gossip, I don’t know why anyone likes her.”

“Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” John 8:7

Jesus knew. He knew that we sin and that for those who didn’t know God or know Christ, they cannot help at all but to live in the sin that the world and Satan pours onto us every day.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

So what I am trying to say is two things:

1. We are different because of Christ.

2. Those who don’t have Christ don’t need judgement from us, they need us to show them Christ.

Can we get away from the gossip and the undeserved resentment that we so often put on people we don’t even really know?

All we need is to show people Christ’s love. Show them the Gospel. Give them His holy Word and let those things do the work. I PROMISE you those things are enough.

Dear Lord, keep us with our eyes and minds on you.

Show us those who are hurting Father and let us find ways to embrace them in your perfect love. Give us the strength and commitment to see others who don’t know your name and have our hearts break. Keep us from showing them judgment. Lord, you went out among the sinners, allow us to do the same in a way that is pleasing to You. Keep us from getting lost in this, let us grow more in You. We love you Lord. Thank you for showing us Your grace, and thank you for that understanding. Amen.
